Caucus Results

OK,  door number three held a candidate named Robert Weeks. When asked why he ran he said said he’s not pursuing a specific agenda in his campaign,”just a lot of common sense.” “I just figured I can be good for the town,” he said, when asked why he decided to run. He doesn’t have a bit of experience or knowledge of town government it seems.

That’s a pretty lame statement to make after accepting the nomination from the caucus which was run by Clinton Selectmen, who in their infinite wisdom decided they needed another lackey to try to keep their board as weak and controllable as possible.

There will be no dissension, there will be no 4-1 votes, just a 5 member board singing kumbayah and railroading the citizens of Clinton…That is if you the Citizens let then to get away with it! Don’t allow it, Bill Connolly has more “common Sense” and savvy than this guy will ever have. He’s nothing but a yes vote for Maryrose Dickhaut and Kevin Haley. Good luck Clinton, this would be without a doubt the worst, most inept board to ever govern the town of Clinton.

Bloodsport doesn’t even amply describe the crap that went on here. Lets give this guy the heave ho and Vote Yes for a common sense candidate, Please vote Bill Connolly for Selectman.

No idea about this Wood guy who’s running against Dale DiMeco, He’s only been on the Planning Board for a month or two, hasn’t even gotten to prove himself yet.

The Caucus was a farce. The Selectmen and women did exactly what they had planned to do, insert a Stooge for the BOS so they could all play nice in the sandbox without any discontent. Well, with $4.M looming for a South Meadow road cleanup, a senior center already over budget, a landfill cap that’s a disaster, and budget cuts needing to be made at at least 3%- I say this board is now way out of its league…Time for some better choices Clinton.

    Vote Bill Connolly!

  2. CLIFFORD BLAKE says:

Vote for someone who will stand up to them and get something done.

    VOTE FOR CLIFFORD BLAKE SELECTMAN.

  3. CLIFFORD BLAKE says:

Now is not the time for the same old same old. We cannot go back to the way of doing things that has gotten us into this financial mess. I care for my town too much to let this happen. The current boards of selectman need someone who can get in there and show them a better way of doing things. I believe I am that candidate. I have the proven leadership skills and the diplomacy needed to get things done. Our town is surrounded by towns that are running in deficits. We cannot let that happen here in our town. I have had to deal with budget situations that called for a sharp eye, a steady hand, and the courage to do what had to be done to make sure financial burdens were met without going into the red. My appoints in this race may have ways of helping our town but time is running out and I believe I am the best candidate to get our town on track again. Help me help our town and together we can get back on track.

Vote BLAKE for SELECTMAN on May 4th

  4. Joe says:

Clifford, while I believe your heart is in this for a good reason as was mine 4 years ago, I don’t think you will win a seat. I don’t say that because I have anything against you or your ideals. I just call them as I see them and at this point the vote would most likely come out at about 1200-Weeks 800-Connolly and 4-500 for you. In other words you’ll keep Bill from winning and the Weeks guy who is their lackey will slide right in. Again, that’s how I see it. No bad blood here just honesty on my part. Bill isn’t part of the problem at all, we’re all on the same side I believe. Good Luck!

Keep those numbers in mind and see how close I am. I’ve observed these elections for years and can call them pretty close.

  5. Diva says:

There is NO WAY we can let Weeks win. If we really wanted to run for selectman he would have taken out papers and gotten signatures like everyone else. ( Except Mr. Woody Woods). He is just there as the other STOOGE to match up with the rest of the stooges.

    VOTE BILL CONNOLLY SELECTMAN!

  6. Joe says:

Cliff Blake is the spoiler, Bill is the one with a chance. I wish Cliff would jump out and come back and fight Haley and Dickhaut next year when their terms are up. Bill needs a fighting chance, Cliff should see that we’re all on basically the same side and against the lousy board we have now. Bill is honest and not an insider or part of that gang.

    BILL FOR SELECTMAN!

  7. Tom C says:

    Joe,

So much posting has happened since I wanted to post about this subject so I will take things point by point.

    1. The Caucus is well known by all and how it works is very public. You may not like the results of the caucus or feel it is no longer needed but the fact is it remains and things were completed procedurally.

    2. I support BILL CONNOLLY in this election not because I do not like what the other candidates offer or due to what little impact I think they may have within the effective governing of the town. I support Bill Connolly because he simply is the best candidate for the town at this point in time. He creates balance on a board whereas votes for other candidates lead to a perfect imbalance. He has experience and direct knowledge with the issues facing the town today and has eloquently expressed vision for the town’s future while maintaining a level of professionalism the town so desperately needs. Other candidates have minimal public service at a town level, a basic understanding of the issues and will require on the job intensive training. This is not the time for such a candidate. Let’s not sell Bill short when advocating his candidacy and minimize his strengths by finishing statements with , “and just look what a vote for the other guy will accomplish.”

    3. Cliff, I have to agree with Joe and was going to contact you in regards to this very point. I do not know you other than what you have posted online and take you for your word that you entered this race for the reasons you stated and not to keep candidates like Bill out. For that, I respect you very much and hope to see a more active role within town in the future. You appear to have many similar thoughts and visions as Bill. I think votes for you will weaken your similar message and only strengthen the concepts of town government you both so strongly profess to change. I ask you consider the impact a three person race will have for the town and consider stepping down this election and throw your support towards Bill so that we, those who agree with the two of you, come together as a stronger more unified front. I imagine, that as a Marine, this would be difficult to do but a necessary step, as Joe pointed out, for us to be successful with the overall cause.

    Thanks,

    Tom C

  8. Clifford Blake says:

I appreciate your enthusiasm, But I did not get into this race to back out or lose. I trust that the voters in our town will do what’s best for our town. I also feel I am the best candidate for this position at this time. I have the diplomatic leadership skills that makes me confident that the current board will follow in my lead in fixing our economic troubles.

    VOTE FOR BLAKE SELECTMAN

  9. Joe says:

    Cliff,

You are sadly mistaken when you believe that the current board would ever follow yours or anyone’s lead. This is a rogue board that listens to no one. Look at current selectman Tony Fiorentino as an example, he’s as diplomatic as you can get, he is stepping down in frustration at this board who will not listen to his well thought out idea’s and thoughts. He’s a friend and has shared this with me. Also know I’m a former Selectman and sat on the board with Dickhaut and Haley, you’ll get nowhere with these narcissistic duo . Not to be crass but you will NOT win and I don’t say that because I support Bill or any other reason accept that I understand the different voting blocks in this town and how it splits. If Bill weren’t running I’d support you as you are an outsider with similar thoughts to Bill and you would vote your conscience which I respect. The current board has shown it’s hand at the caucus and is supporting this Weeks character. This guy will probably be the next selectman due to the three way vote split. I stand by the numbers I posted previously. Please be a realist and understand how this town votes. You should let Bill fight this fight himself, take one for the team, it’s our best chance at getting a level headed person on the board. I’d support you next year in a race against Haley and Dickhaut, hell, I’ll even help you!

    Best Regards,
    Joe

  10. Clifford Blake says:

Joe I want to thank you for saying you would support me in the future and I will remember that as Selectman. I have not backed out of anything in my life and I am not going to start now. Wouldn’t it be better to have me run against weeks and have Bill run next year? If you say its stacked in there favor Both me or Bill would be the odd man out? I have no intentions of backing out of this race. But I do mean thank you for your support in the future.

    VOTE BLAKE SELECTMAN

    • Joe says:

I believe Bill would pull more votes than you based on my knowledge of the voting blocks in town. As a relative unknown quantity you need more name recognition. Bill has that and could pull this off. Again I stand by the numbers I posted. watch and see if I was right. Maybe both you and Bill will be running again next year! I do salute your tenacity and faith in yourself as far as your ability to win this election…

  11. Diva says:

Cliff- If Weeks wins this election the town of Clinton is in for big trouble. The Board as it stands now is laden with greed, corruption, and stupidity (with one exception). Adding another “yes” man to it will accomplish nothing for this town. In fact, I venture to say, the town will start moving backwards instead of forward.

We NEED Bill Connolly on this board. I admire your tenacity and drive, but to be quite honest you have a rats ass chance in hell of wining. Believe it or not, I think you would be better served politically to bow out of this race gracefully and honorably and back Bill Connolly to help this town move forward. It will go a long way in helping any future run for BOS you might have -which could be as soon as next year when we have 2 seats open.

    Please consider it.

  12. Tom Hagen says:

    Joe,
Like you I also have watched the voting patterns of the elections the past few years and your numbers look pretty accurate and they would be IF the Weez was the clans number one choice. But he wasn’t. Her holiest Rose and the others were running aroud like chickens with their heads cut off trying to find a viable candidate who could compete with Bill. But they got this guy from the bottom of the barrel. I’ve even heard some of the clansmen are scratching their heads wondering why cement head is running. For this reason. Ill put money on Connolly 1150 Weeks 950 and Blake the spoiler at 300. You should’ve dropped out Cliffy. Instead of doing a service to the town youre doing it a disservice by stealing votes from Billy. You don’t just run for a position like selectman with no political background. Id never even heard of your name before you took out papers. Since its too late to withdraw I say you right a letter to the editor and tell your supporters to support Bill if you really want good for this town that you say you love so much. If youre so confident why not wait till next year and try running against the problems themselves?

  13. Joe says:

    Tom,

Tom Hagen, Hmmm where have I heard that name before 😉 good point on the viability of the Weeks character. I wasn’t sure whether or not he was high on the list of the usual suspects! I guess not. Hell anyone with the nickname “cement head” can’t really be a good choice. Glad you believe Bill will win, I certainly hope so. Maybe we’ll be on the road to getting some sanity back to the inept board of selectman. They don’t represent me or anything I believe in. They are out for themselves and their pals not you and I!

  14. Diva says:

I was thinking “cement head” isn’t a great nickname either. But, I am not a lifelong Clintonian, so I was thinking I was missing the joke.. Glad I am not.

We all hope Bill will win…

    VOTE BIL CONNOLLY FOR SELECTMAN

  15. Isn’t the argument that selectman requires experience a little bit curious in this context? Bill Connolly’s supporters here seem to have a fairly high opinion of Tony Fiorentino, who ran for (and was elected) selectman three years ago with NO previous civic experience in Clinton, and only participating in grassroots opposition to a road project in Leominster.

    • Joe says:

He was also an Engineer and a thinking man, not someone that was found lounging around the local watering hole! He proved to the people of Clinton he was the best guy for the job, obviously he was as he ousted a six year veteran. Tony was also no ones stooge, he was a free thinking guy. If this Weeks is the best the opposition can do then I digress. Have you actually questioned him on where he stands on any important issues? I’d love to hear his take on the issues of the day. I actually think that if Bill C. wasn’t running I’d vote for Cliff Blake as he seems to have some really good life experience. The Weeks guy is just a popularity contest choice, not the best person for the position.

  16. Clifford Blake says:

I would like to see this weeks guy have his own profile on the other site. So we could ask him some tuff questions? Folks I am in this for the long hall and alot of people do know I exist.

    VOTE BLAKE SELECTMAN

  17. Clifford Blake says:

Candidates Night should be very interesting

    VOTE BLAKE SELECTMAN

  18. Joe, I think you’re making a better argument — better phrased, at least — in this latest reply. I’m not advocating for any one of these three (not until I write the editorial …). I just think the conversation is ill-served when people make blanket statements about “experience” when they’re really criticizing a perceived lack of independence or understanding. Name recognition and “experience” do help, but when people belittle one campaign (Weeks’) and encourage another candidate (Blake) to drop his, I’d expect some better reasoning than the demonstrably incorrect “newcomers can’t win.”

    • Joe says:

      Mike,

First I never said a newcomer can’t win…Tony F. handily won election three years ago. Municipal experience is not a prerequisite, although I would pick Bill over either of the others based on his experience, it (experience) lends itself to not having the “learning curve” other candidates would have. The candidacy of Weeks is nothing but a ham-handed attempt by the FULL BOS contingent minus Tony F to completely control the reins and push through their self serving agenda, through the use of “loyal soldiers”, look at how they operate now!…I stand by that statement as I’ve had many reports that they DO NOT want Bill Connolly as a Selectman due to his outspoken manner and independent demeanor. In fact Chairman Haley is quoted as saying “Anyone but Bill Connolly” To me it’s good to have someone on the board that will keep them honest and make sure that “predecided” and never discussed issues are identified and discussed so we as citizens know what’s going on in our town government, it is our right to know. I have no problem with Cliff Blake either, I think he’s a sincere guy, however reality dictates that he will cost Bill votes and possibly hand the election to Weeks who is only doing this to help his handlers…Remember I sat in one of those chairs and know the drill, or in this case their lack of a transfer of information to the general public. Openness, transparency and citizen friendly are not in this boards vocabulary. Finally Cliff is a great guy but he’s no Tony F, by that I mean he won’t win, not because he’s a newcomer, but doesn’t have the same type of demeanor and though process or backing that Tony F had.

BTW, how is stating factual information belittling someones campaign? The BOS and their operatives were scraping the bottom when they finally found someone willing to run. Many of their own are not happy about this choice but it was the only one they had. That’s not to say this guy isn’t a good person, but that he was the only candidate they could find in short order. If fact, I’ll bet you money if there is a debate or candidates night this year that Weeks is a no show, The handlers don’t want people to see his lack of knowledge.

All that said, I’m advocating for and FULLY ENDORSE Bill Connolly for Selectman, He is the absolute best person for the position. I encourage all the voters of Clinton to vote for him as he has the best qualifications hands down….Wow, that comment is longer than most of my blog articles;)

  19. Tom Hagen says:

    Mr. Ballway,
youre trying to compare this election with the new guy(Blake) to the Fiorentino/Elworthy election. The thing you got to remember is that Elworthy was an incumbent and people were fed up with him, this year we have an open seat that needs the experience. The only reason why people voted for the new guy(Fiorentino) was because he was the only way to get Elworthy out. Wait and see what next year is like with Haley and Dickhauts seats up! This year is different because of the fact that two nonclansmen are running for an open seat and between those two Bill is obviously the better choice. So why don’t you non clansmen get together and support the better of these candidates? You wont because Cliff wont back down because hes being backed by someone in the shadows promising him something in return later for trying to not allow Billy in. Tony was a good guy with some great ideas and diplomacy on the board but he never had any power whatsoever by himself once the other guineas left. Lets face it if the Weez gets in say bye bye rifle range and alot of other things. I dont know if any of you have ever heard Bill C speak at the town meetings but his one vote on a subject might outweigh the other four combined, at least in the public eye. The decisions the “clan” board will make over the next three years will take years and years to correct IF they are ever defeated, if not we here in Clinton will be even more ass backwards.

  20. Clifford Blake says:

I think the town needs beter then Bill or Weeks

People of Clinton should Vote for Blake. Connolly should run against dickaught and Haley next year.

Vote for BLAKE the best canidate for SELECTMAN and the BEST TIME

  21. Clifford Blake says:

    Joe
I guess this web site should be called
BILL CONNOLLYS BLOODSPORT…Wow Very one sided.

I disagree with you JOE, The best CANIDATE for SELECTMAN is BLAKE.

    • Joe says:

      Cliff,

This is my Blog, I write what i want and my opinion. I’m not here to give equal time to all, but to whoever I happen to support. In this case my friend Bill Connolly is running for Selectman and I will show my support for him, that’s what friends do. I haven’t bashed you, and as you know we agree on most subjects we talked about. So if you think I’m one sided, I am, I support the side or candidate I choose, it’s America, I have that choice (Thanks to soldiers like you!). Remember, I said I would support you if you ran next time around (if you don’t win this time). So it’s Bloodsport = Clinton Politics!

  22. Tom C says:

    Mike,

I look back at the posts I have made and do not see one bit of information that I have belittled any campaign. I have never said a new comer can not win and believe I know what I am talking about when I speak to the experience Bill presents in this election as it compares to his opponents. I think it would have been in the town’s best interest for Cliff to have dropped out and supported Bill in this election. None of which do I see as negative, underhanded or neglecting fact.

That being said and at this time, I think it is improbable that a new comer will win in this election. It takes time for a person to build his name, brand if you will, and become trusted by those who actually vote come election day

    Tom C

  23. Clifford Blake says:

Tom if I get a bunch of crows will you eat it when I win???

    VOTE BLAKE
    SELECTMAN MAY 4th

  24. ALYCIA says:

IF ANYONE KNOW ABOUT POLITICS IT IS CLIFFORD BLAKE……..

YOU GOT MY VOTE CLIFFORD.. I HAVE LIVE IN THIS TOWN MY WHOLE LIFE AND I AM ONE TO KNOW THAT CLINTON NEEDS A CHANGE!!!

GOOD LUCK AND DON’T LET THESE OTHER PEOPLE GET TO YOU THEY DO IT TO EVERYONE.

  25. Terry C. says:

Clifford, If anyone will have to eat crow It will be you. I don’t know why you are so confident you’re going to win unless you are being backed by the clan and are hiding it. That is a likely scenario. I’d say you have someone behind you, not sure who, but you are playing games for sure! And to Alycia, Clifford dosen’t know much at all about Clinton politics — unless someone is coaching him!

  26. Clifford Blake says:

“unless you are being backed by the clan and are hiding it”

Sir I am not being backed by the clan I have never met any of them. Joe can tell you. I am in this thing to help the Town I live to serve my Town and country. I have served my country in the United States Marines Honorably and I will Serve the people of Clinton Honorably. I am always confident that is a very important leadership skill. I have what it takes to help this town grow in a positive way. I follow only the ways the founding fathers set up to Govern this Country, and town. I am not playing games. The reason I got into this race was – I have followed and watched all the town meetings for the past few years and after watching the town meetings of this year I felt I had to do something to Fix what is going on for the people of our town I do not serve anyone but the people of Clinton. They always come first.

VOTE BLAKE FOR SELECTMAN MAY 4th…..The change we need

  27. ALYCIA says:

    Remember these word Clifford:

“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”

    Vote for Clifford Blake!!!

  28. Clifford Blake says:

The one bad thing about politics is you have to take one side or the other. I am confident that when I am the selectman The critics on this blog will like how I lead our town out of this fiscal mess.

“Take action. Do things; Do not fritter away your time. Take a place wherever you are and be somebody, Serve your town , serve your country”.

  30. Diva says:

Cliff- If you want to be elected, you need to get your specific answers out there and go out to the masses. Listing things on the forum or here won’t do it. The people who read these blogs and the forum are less than 400. Is is a very small minority of voters.

Besides, I will clue you in on a secret. The seniors rule this town when it comes to voting. Without them you don’t have a chance.

I would say you need to focus more and hype less.

  31. Joe, Tom H, Tom C and everyone else–

I’m sorry if I’ve offended any of you. I purposely did not “name names” in my last comment because I think it’s counterproductive. I simply said “people” are belittling Mr. Weeks’ campaign. If you haven’t seen that going on, here and elsewhere, you’re reading the English language different from the way I learned it. I leave it to you to determine whether the belittlement is just or unjust, but I believe it’s certainly present.

The only point I was trying to make is that it’s ridiculous to say “You don’t just run for a position like selectman with no political background” (April 2, 1:16 p.m. — I won’t single out the writer but you can look if it up if you must) when in fact three of the sitting selectmen did exactly that. I recognize that this election is light-years different from the Elworthy-Fiorentino election: incumbent vs. open seat, three-way vs. two-way, prosperous economy vs. awful recession, divided “rest of the board” vs. 4-0 rest of the board, the simple passage of three years, etc. I’m interested in seeing some elevated discourse on this election, and hearing the policy rationales for supporting one candidate or the other. All three of you have presented thought-out reasonings, and I think voters need to hear more of these policy-based arguments rather than musings on political viability.
