Spring Has Sprung – Bloodsport Is In The Air

Wednesday, May 8th, 2013

The beauty of spring is here and with that comes the local election season. Unlike last year there is actually a contested selectmen’s race, although the cast is made up of all selectmen and former selectmen. So much for new blood…Pun Intended!

Vying for seats are incumbents David Sargent and Maryrose Dickhaut and former selectmen Mark Iacobucci and Kevin Haley. This is actually a very interesting turn of events. I don’t remember anytime in the past when all the candidates were former selectmen.

I’m going to leave you hanging for a while and not comment on what I think may happen or on the candidates. I’ll wait until the caucus and see if anyone is put up as a potential “spoiler”. That will be very telling.

Caucus Results

Monday, March 30th, 2009

OK,  door number three held a candidate named Robert Weeks. When asked why he ran he said said he’s not pursuing a specific agenda in his campaign,”just a lot of common sense.” “I just figured I can be good for the town,” he said, when asked why he decided to run. He doesn’t have a bit of experience or knowledge of town government it seems.

That’s a pretty lame statement to make after accepting the nomination from the caucus which was run by Clinton Selectmen, who in their infinite wisdom decided they needed another lackey to try to keep their board as weak and controllable as possible.

There will be no dissension, there will be no 4-1 votes, just a 5 member board singing kumbayah and railroading the citizens of Clinton…That is if you the Citizens let then to get away with it! Don’t allow it, Bill Connolly has more “common Sense” and savvy than this guy will ever have. He’s nothing but a yes vote for Maryrose Dickhaut and Kevin Haley. Good luck Clinton, this would be without a doubt the worst, most inept board to ever govern the town of Clinton.

Bloodsport doesn’t even amply describe the crap that went on here. Lets give this guy the heave ho and Vote Yes for a common sense candidate, Please vote Bill Connolly for Selectman.

No idea about this Wood guy who’s running against Dale DiMeco, He’s only been on the Planning Board for a month or two, hasn’t even gotten to prove himself yet.

We Have A Contender

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

As I alluded to in my previous article, there was a name bandied about that I believe is a good replacement for Tony Fiorentino. Well he has taken out papers and is running for the Clinton Board of Selectman. With municipal experience gained from serving on the School Committee, Charter Commission, Finance Committee, Parks & Recreation, numerous building committees and as a scout leader, I present to you, in this corner, a veteran of many town elections, town meetings and a man who needs no further introduction, William F. Connolly, Jr.

It looks like this Bloodsport season is shaping up to be a barnburner, with contested seats on the Board of Assessors, Town Moderator, School Committee and so far one person for the Board of Selectmen.

The Annual Bloodsport Season Begins!

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

Election Schedule:

February 9: First day to take out nomination papers
March 16: Last day to take out nomination papers
March 18: Nomination papers due at 5pm
March 27: Nominating caucus, if quorum (25) is met
April 1: Last day to withdraw from the ballot
April 14: Last day to register to vote in the town election
May 4: Election 7am to 8pm at Town Hall

So the dates have been set and published, now its time for the sport to begin. I’ve heard a few juicy rumors on the street but none have been substantiated yet. Of course I’ll be updating this blog with the latest news and rumors, but it’s a bit premature yet.

I see that the Times and Courier has an editorial about a previous School Committee race and that these two dedicated parents would be obvious candidates if interested. I would have to agree with them.

Many thanks to Bernice McGrail for her three decades of service to Clinton’s children, You’ll be missed!

Lets hope for some great candidates to step up to the plate and help guide Clinton through the tough fiscal times ahead. There will be decisions to be made that won’t be easy and should be made with compassion, intelligence and common sense.

Let the Games Begin!
